No Promotion explained in detail

Unsigned acts often sell their music themselves at gigs and on their websites. This is important of course as people put a lot of hard work into their music and are entitled to sell it just like anything else.

But aside from the recuperation of funds (and in a few rare cases, a profit) why are people making music? Surely it's for themselves and others to enjoy? Many unsigned acts suffer from a lack of exposure. Without record company support, it's often hard to get people to listen to their music.

This is the idea behind No Promotion. We see business and exposure as two very separate values and we like to think they can be treated separately. To put it in simple terms - why not sell music to whoever you can and give it away free to everyone else?

No Promotion aims to attract followers from all over the world to our blog. By putting quality music here we will be attracting people who want to hear good music. The people who download music via our links will be discovering it purely as a result of the blog. The artists do not lose money because they would not have come into contact with these potential fans by any other means.

We don't want acts to tell their fans to download their work from us for free. We want people to tell their friends about this blog because great unheard-of music can be found here.  Our function is to help artists gain fans who may later support them. We encourage our readers to purchase the music they have enjoyed.

One of the most important reasons that people make music is to reach out to other people. This site will help you do that. And doing that will not lose you money. In fact, it may even make you money if people buy your CD after listening to a track here.  And you never know who might be listening... or if they might want to offer you a record deal...

This blog is about is connecting people. Somebody in London could be listening to a record made in a bedroom in Mexico and totally relating to and enjoying the music. For us, this is what it's all about!
